Frequently Asked Questions
Will you publish my podcast as a book?
Yes, if your podcast meets our needs for content and quality. You can submit your podcast for consideration on our contact page, here.
Will I need to pay you to publish my book?
Never. No reputable publisher would require that.
I don’t have a podcast, but I do have a blog. Would you consider that for publication?
Absolutely. We love good blogs as much as we love good podcasts.
Who owns the copyright on my book?
You do. However, if some of the material comes from guests interviewed on your podcast, the copyright on that material depends on your legal arrangement with them. It’s up to you make sure you have the necessary rights to turn that material into a book.
What will my book be like?
It will be a strikingly beautiful 6-by-9-inch trade paperback. The interior pages will be printed in black and white on 50-pound white, acid-free, archival-quality paper—topnotch stuff. In addition, you can feel good that your book is printed using the “green” process of print-on-demand. When someone orders your book online, the distributor will print one copy of the book and send it to the customer. There are no boxes full of books sitting in a warehouse somewhere or being shredded into pulp if they don’t sell.
Will I need to sign a contract with you?
Yes, but it’s a simple one that protects you as well as us. Here are its major provisions:
- You agree to let us publish your podcast as a printed book and an ebook, and we agree to do so.
- You agree to abide by our choice of the book’s formatting and design.
- You warrant that you own the rights to the material you send us, and that you accept full responsibility in regard to those rights.
- We agree to sell you copies of your book at the wholesale discount of 30 percent off the retail price.
- We agree to pay you a royalty on sales of the book yearly in July.
Are there other ways I can make money with my book?
Yes! One of the easiest is to sign up as an affiliate with Amazon, Bookshop, or other online booksellers. Then, when someone orders your book through an affiliate link on your website, you make a percentage of that sale. You can also buy your books from us at the wholesale price and resell them directly to your listeners at whatever price you like, or give them away to promote your podcast. And of course, the books themselves will include a page promoting your podcast, and you can use your podcast to promote your book. You win both ways!
What else can my book do for me?
Your book will provide an additional source of income, but being a published author brings many new opportunities and benefits. Here are just a few:
- Your book can give you and your podcast greater visibility, credibility, status, and recognition. Don’t be surprised at the attention you receive from media and other podcasters, along with interview invitations to talk about your “new” book.
- Your book can help you grow your podcast community, drawing new followers.
- Your book can attract new interviewees to your podcast—exciting people you really want to talk to—who will want share their stories, experiences, expertise, and perspective.
- Your book and the credibility it creates can help attract potential sponsors to your podcast.
What can I do to promote my book?
Your podcast takes on a new dimension when you become an author. Suddenly you are the authority in the room, in a new position to promote yourself and your book in each podcast episode. Here are just a few suggestions:
- Pre-publication sales and promotion for your book can begin the minute you sign a publishing agreement with Podcast Publishing. You can begin telling your friends, family, and followers how thrilled you are about your upcoming book and invite them to order a copy (or copies!) at a special pre-publication price for your podcast community only (we assume your friends and family are followers too).
- Begin talking about how excited you are for your forthcoming book. Talk briefly about it with each of your guests as a point of interest in your conversation.
- After release, ask your guests if they’ve heard about your new book.
- Give a copy of your book as a thank-you gift to each of your guests for taking time to be on your podcast. This can build strong relationships, generate referrals, and provide another opportunity to talk about your book. If it’s a good interview, you might even hint that it could be a chapter in your next book.
- Give away a copy of your book once a month in a prize drawing from your list of subscribers.
- Use your book as a fundraiser. You can build a strong sense of community around sharing some of your proceeds for a worthy cause, such as helping pay medical bills for a member of your podcast community. Good people rally around a good cause and like to contribute—especially if they feel that, by buying your book, they are helping a member of your podcast community.
